Herbalism As An Act of Rebellion (As seen in the Citizens Oversight Accountability Project Paper)

The world we know and live in is rapidly changing- at such a pace it can feel destabilizing and anxiety inducing because we no longer feel in control of basic things like our ability to access food, medicine and other necessities. We can no longer take for granted that the items we rely on to maintain our health and wellbeing will be available in stores when we need them.

With ever increasing pressures imposed on us by the industrial medical complex, which are constantly working to prevent or impede our access to natural medicines, it is becoming of critical importance that we reclaim and share plant medicine knowledge and skills; that we become active participants in learning about, growing and using plant medicines as a way to directly disrupt the global arrangement of power and protect our health and that of our communities.

We cannot expect to negotiate within these current systems and see change. Power only cares if we build a strategic movement against it. If we are to make any kind of lasting impacts that will create the healthy and thriving world for future generations, it is going to take courage, persistence and sacrifice. It is going to mean building local economies, food and medicine networks and learning and sharing survival skills.

We have the upper hand. The industrial medical complex can never separate us from nature. So long as we are not divorced from the sun, the soil and water, we can grow and forage medicines and food we need. Herbal medicine has always been and always will be the people’s medicine. Even in today’s modern world more people globally continue to rely on herbal medicine than pharmaceuticals.

We need not be dependent on drugs. Herbs can provide the most broad spectrum anti-microbials that exist as well as pain-relievers, anti-inflammatories and more. There are even herbs that can benefit rare conditions such as sickle cell anemia.

I encourage you to find teachers. Find people that are doing real and honorable work and give them your money VS continuing to support businesses built on accumulating wealth without conscience or awareness.

There is a sense of peace, empowerment and awe that comes when we tap into the natural world and the abundance and intelligence of it. When we begin to live more aligned with what truly sustains us and nourishes our entire being. We can and we will bring herbal medicine back to a place of “you can rely only these plants to save your life” and we will not let corporate greed limit our access or ability to care for our bodies with natural medicines that are safe and effective.
